SPIES' NOT-SO-TALL THOUGHTS

Week 1

FITT FU Home

Game 1: Becker's Peckers vs. Danny's Mad Cows

The opening of this year's FITT FU season. Excitement. Tempers are expected to flare since Danny selected the entire core of last year's "angry team": Ariel, Buff, and Beef. Could the new USDA have as good a year as last year? My prediction is yes. They looked pretty solid. Ariel managed to holster his push pass and keep his throwaways down at 1. With 3 assists and 1 score, Ariel looked like he deserved the #2 pick. On the other hand, Becker's team apparently couldn't hold onto the disc. 13 throwaways as a team, giving up 6 D's (4 by Mike Lawson - why not 8 lawson? isn't that the magic number?) - that's something that Becker's team is gonna have to work on for their next game. They could also use Vag. My opinion: get the disc to Julia. 3 scores with only 1 drop and 1 throwaway. A major factor in week 1. Possibly the best female contribution yet.

Surprise of the Day: Verbal. The #1 pick of the draft, Verbs contributed to only 1 score. But don't worry, I can guarantee a completely different performance next week. Expect him to put up big numbers next week.

Game 2: Bill's Middle Infield Action vs. Crocker's Roughnecks

The second game of the night proved as exciting as the first. The game opened with a particularly poor performance by myself - 3 drops, 2 that i can pass off to my hair. Despite the shaky start, Crocker's team had some solid handling from Reamer (0 turns) and Neil. (Neil promises to get in better shape - a bigger threat next week. Expect a good matchup between he and Verbal.) Bettinelli's Middle Infield Action started the game with the lead, but once they started turning the disc over and Crocker's Roughnecks stopped giving it away, the score evened itself out. Cooter kept his team in it with 25 fast-count stalls (hence his #1 point block ranking after week 1), and Potter put it into the endzone repeatedly. With score tied and a minute left, the Roughnecks grooved it into the endzone to take a one point lead. Rushing the disc back to the line, Potter threw a sick flick to Blake for the last second score. Tied. (Potter also had a sweet greatest. But a greatest that leads to a turn is just a sweet pass.) With tensions high, the game headed to a 5 minute overtime in the middle of game 3. Crocker's Roughnecks brought their game in overtime. With three quick scores and some tight D, they stormed by the MIA. My opinion: let Cooter and Potter break the mark all game long. Crocker's team was screwed when the MIA stormed up the breakside. Breaking is easy for these guys. Let em do it. Roughnecks? Minimize turnovers. With that, should be one of the better teams this year.

Two Surprises of the Day: #1, I can't catch. #2, a Crocker victory. With Cooter and Potter breaking it to Blake and Gabe through regulation time, it seemed that they had the advantage. Personally, I thought the Roughnecks were done for in overtime.

Game 3: Skipper's Skipping Schoolgirls vs. The Dude's Dudes

Probably the two best teams in the league. Skipper picked a sweet alumni triumvirate of the Funcouple and NateJohnson. (Combined for 3 goals and 6 assists in game one) They are probably the deepest team with Zach and Healey as well (contributed another 5 goals). Meanwhile, the Dude has two of the highest ranking 2003 FITT FU stars: John Korber (#3 i believe) and TallMatt (#1). I'm still being accused of cheating for picking up Korber last year... But four guys can only run around without a break for so long. Especially against the Skipping Schoolgirls. TallMatt may not have been on the top of his game either - i hear he takes a liking to schoolgirls. Distractions? Possibly.

Two Surprises of the Day: #1, ATTENDANCE. The Dude's Dudes were in trouble from the start having zero subs. Meanwhile, the Skipping Schoolgirls all made the bus. Can they maintain that, depending on 3 alumni? If so, they look like the most favorable team. But if not, it could be trouble. #2, Healey learned how to throw indoors. Renowned for having no touch, he managed to not throw it away once. Good work.

Game 4: Sam Kortz vs. Stork

An epic-sized battle ensued after the conclusion of FITT FU week 1 last friday. The opponents: Squirtz and Stork. The competition: Dance Dance Revolution. The booty: World-Renowned Title of Supreme Dork. After a half-hour of waiting around, Stork won a rosham for music selection. And three seizure induced dances, Stork won by a sizeable margin. It's a good thing Sam reneged on his challenge of "Loser has to streak the campus center." Stork jumped on that idea. Who woulda known that Stork was an exhibitionist? or is he just a really good dancer... hmmm........

Surprise of the Day: Sam Kortz didn't cry.
