SPIES' NOT-SO-TALL THOUGHTS
Week 2
Game 1: Crocker's Roughnecks vs. Becker's Peckers
Becker's Peckers came into week 2 with eyes on an improvement from their 7-5 loss in week 1, in which they had 20 turnovers. They held onto the disc much better in week 2, giving up 12 turnovers, basically even to the Roughnecks' 11 turns. Instead, this game turned out to be a game of running, or so it seemed. The Roughnecks, constantly ahead of their men on O and D, pulled out 9 goals (would have been 10, if Crocker could take back that drop in the endzone) and earned 8 D's. The deep strike was working very well for the Roughnecks, with throws from Chira, Evan, and Neil in particular. Neil gave the crowd a show for the second week in a row - 3 goals, 2 assists, 4 D's, and 0 turns. Evan, recovering from his concussion after throwing himself into a brick wall last week, gave another solid handling performance, with only 1 throwaway (his first of the year). I wore a hat, and managed to not drop it this week, putting in 4 goals and 3 assists. On the other side, Verbal had a much better performance this week, controlling the Pecker offense. Steve also posed as a threat in the endzone, putting away 2 goals. It should also be noted that, despite 2 left-handed drops by Sam, he had a wicked sky near the endzone on myself. However, a lack in chilly-ness led to a goal line turnover.
Surprise of the Day: Sam not making it into the endzone. 0 goals and 0 assists. If Becker's team is going to be a threat, he and Verbal need to work it. Sam should be the #1 endzone threat for this team. This means more cuts into the endzone for Sam, but it also means the rest of his team must look for him. Once the Peckers figure this out, they'll be a whole different team.
P.S: Vag next week? Quite possibly.
Game 2: Bill's Middle Infield Action vs. The Dude's Dudes
Definitely the most exciting game of the week. From the start it appeared that the Dudes were unstoppable - particularly Korber. Was there a match for him? He ran around Bill and Potter, and was only slowed down when Elliot started marking him. Korber had an amazing showing of 5 goals and 2 assists (contributing to all 7 scores). Elliot however played even better. 2 huge Ds saved the game for the MIA - one on Korber (Korber proceeded to draw blood by throwing the disc at Elliot's face - he disguised it as a Greatest attempt) and the game-saver on Jesse. He also contributed 1 goal and 2 assists. Would last week have been different for the MIA if Elliot were there? Who knows? Potter and Cooter also had the handler connection grooving. They hit each other several times in the endzone, and basically controlled the offense. However, had they both stopped overthrowing Gabe in the endzone (who was wide open several times), the score would not have been nearly as close.
Surprise of the Day: Jesse appeared a little ginger, his groin apparently still bothering him. He had 4 turns in this game, but that won't happen again... Look for him to be a much bigger threat next week.
Game 3: Danny's Mad Cows vs. Skipper's Skipping Schoolgirls
This game turned out to be a blowout. Skipper's Schoolgirls ran circles around the Mad Cows. Despite 10 turnovers, their flow was still amazing, undoubtedly the best in the league. With no weak link on Skip's team, they are obviously the team to beat this year. This week saw a pretty impressive performance by Freshman Skipper (1 goal and 2 assists w/ only 1 turnover). He leads the league in rankings among the freshmen. Funboy also had 1 goal and 5 assists this week. However, he still trails his FunGirl in the rankings. Could there be some tension next week between the FunCouple? Maybe some sabotage? Ariel did not play this week, and it definitely hurt the Mad Cows' chances at victory. The #2 draft pick is a risk-taker, and that is what yellow needed in week 2. Without the cajones to throw it deep, yellow stood little chance in matchups against the Schoolhoes.
Surprise of the Day: Nate Johnson absolutely bowled over Maegen, proceeding to call a pick. It looked pretty violent. I said "wow."
